NEWS FLASH: Hurricane Maria Humanitarian Relief Aid to Puerto Rico for FEMA

The storm made landfall on Puerto Rico on Wednesday, September 20, as a Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 155 mph. The resulting devastation left thousands of people homeless, without food, water and electricity. Navitrans was selected to handle 15 charter flights to San Juan, Puerto Rico, using both of our 747-4 freighters, as part of the humanitarian relief effort to support FEMA. During the last week of September and throughout November, our two 747 freighters departed from Atlanta, Miami, Dallas and New York airports to San Juan carrying a wide range of desperately needed supplies for the devastated communities in Puerto Rico. We carried basic staples including bottled drinking water, canned food, cereals and other related food items. We also carried thousands of gas powered electric generators needed for backup power as the islands power grid was virtually destroyed by the hurricane.
Many of the items transported were from donations made by the American public and arranged through several humanitarian aid organizations.
